LATEST NEWS

02/02/12:     Again no SLKPA action for the first team this week so attention turned onto the Academicals who were in action at home against the Royal Standard. The night didn't start too brightly as Snooksy got dished up, only for Charlie Mumbles to provide the champagne moment of the match with an impressive break and dish to level it up at 1-1. His long black bridging over a ball on the rail was masterly. Dean Williams had sunk more Bacardis than object balls yet still managed a 2 out of 2, and Alan Hawkins polished off the win with a sublime finish weaving in and out of balls. Despite an opponent recording a full house of 4 wins, the Pickwick remained resolute running out  7-5 victors.

31/01/12:     A narrow win in the deciding frame at home to O'Dowds A keeps the Pickwick revival on track in the FSPL. Tango and the Undertaker got the hosts off to a good start, with back up from Bedtime and Dan the Pickwick looked set fair for a decent win. The Undertaker, showing some good form, then added his second win of the night, but this seemed to stir our opponents into a response. Despite being in commanding positions, the Pickwick managed to conjure up some improbable situations, when it seemed easier to finish. Mickey Warwicker managed to claw back a frame he ought to have lost, and an unlucky in off cost Bedtime and suddenly it was 6-6. It was all on big Dan Hassan's shoulders to salvage the match, and he duly delivered with a brave last ditch snooker on the black with it hanging in the jaws, drawing out a fouled potted black from the oppo, to nick the 3 point win bonus. O'Dowds put in a good performance which belies their league position, and our win was earned the hard way.

30/01/12:     The Pickwick Singles League season 2 was completed on Monday with Tango crowned the champion with 53 points winning £60 and Gaf finished as runner up 2 points behind. Bedtime couldn't get enough frames in his last match to overtake either and had to be content with third place. All 8 entrants managed at least 1 win each, and the league was keenly contested. The Gyspy emerged from the 6 player play off to scoop the £25 reward. PSL3 is now beginning to take shape and the top 6 players from PSL2 will be invited in along with 2 other players who didn't play in PSL2. If there aren't enough takers then the bottom 2 players from PSL2 will be invited into PSL3 again. First come first served. More details on the Singles League page.
